Brookfield gymnastics improved to 6-0 in North Shore Conference dual meets by posting a season-best score in a 143.08-138.4 win over Whitefish Bay on Feb. 2 and took second place at the KCG Superbowl on Jan. 4 at Kenosha Tremper.
Lexi Romero took second in the all-around against Whitefish Bay at 37.025. She earned second-place finishes on the vault (9.225), bars (9.175) and beam (9.325) and was third on the floor exercise (9.3). Caitlin Locante was third in the all-around (36.625), second on the floor (9.375) and bars (9.175) and third on the vault (8.9). Lexi Penney claimed third on the vault (8.9) and on the beam (9.2).
Brookfield's junior varsity team downed Whitefish Bay, 119.3-111.7. Riley Veng won the vault (8.1) and beam (8.2), Caitlyn Albrecht won the bars (7.8) and Rose Dundun won on the floor (8.4).
The gymnasts earned a score of 139.93 to edge defending state champion FMOW, which finished with a 139.4. Kenosha Combined won the six-team meet with a 140.85 and Arrowhead took fourth place at 138.45.
Locante won the floor title with a score of 9.675, was third on the beam (8.975) and fourth in the all-around (36.05).
"All of the top four teams were within a few points of each other," Brookfield coach Erin Kokta said. "This was an extremely competitive meet with a majority of the top teams in the state present. I was extremely proud of the girls and how they competed. We had some ups and downs but preserved through. The highlight of the meet was Caitlin Locante's winning floor routine where she scored the second highest score ever posted in team history."
Romero placed second on the bars (9.25), fifth on the vault (9.2), floor (9.3) and all-around (35.95). Penney was fourth on the beam (8.95).
