Big nights from Thomas Francken and Patrick Cartier helped Brookfield East's boys basketball team come away with a 51-47 win over rival Brookfield Central on Dec. 8.
The Spartans, ranked No. 9 in Division 1, continued their strong start to the season
East led 23-19 at halftime prior to a back-and-forth second half. with a 61-46 win over Wauwatosa West on Dec. 12.
The Spartans and Menomonee Falls are the only teams to win their first two Greater Metro games.
Brookfield East and Brookfield Central were tied at 31-31 with 10:30 to play and 35-35 with 6:30 remaining. East pulled ahead 46-43 with 1:18 left and held on for the win.
Francken finished with a career-high 23 points. Cartier scored 18 points and Peyton Simon added seven points.
Andres Peralta-Werns led Central with 19 points and Gage Malensek scored 17 points.
East held Wauwatosa West to just 12 points in the first half and led 26-12 at halftime.
Cartier scored 26 points in the win with Francken scoring 11 points and Michael Poker adding nine points.
Central girls win low-scoring affair over East
Over the past five seasons, there have been seven games between the two rivals where neither team has reached 50 points.
Central led 19-18 at halftime and opened up a 32-25 advantage with 5:14 remaining.
The Spartans pulled to within 32-31, but Elise Joplin hit a pair of free throws to make it 34-31 with 10.4 seconds left. Nikki Pink drove down the court and kicked to Emma Kiekhofer in the corner. Her 3-point attempt missed long. East grabbed the offensive rebound but turned it over as time expired.
Anna Mortag led Central with 11 points and seven rebounds. CJ Romero scored nine points with five steals.
