8th Grade Team – Rotating Roster for League Play and Tournaments Coach McGath/Grintjes and Coach Kristina 67 WELCOME TO JR. SPARTANS GIRLS BASKETBALLStrong. Simple. Consistent.About the Club: The purpose and function of the Junior Spartans program is to sponsor, organize, monitor, support, and give the youth players in grades 3 through 8 the opportunity to play the wonderful sport of basketball. Participation in Brookfield East Junior Spartan Girls Basketball Incorporated is reserved for student-athletes and families who believe in the overall philosophy of Brookfield East Junior Spartan Girls Basketball Incorporated, plan to attend Brookfield East High School and must either live within the Elmbrook published attendance boundaries for Brookfield East High School or attend a Brookfield East feeder school under Wisconsin’s Open Enrollment Law or attend a Brookfield East feeder school with an Elmbrook District granted boundary exempt. We are looking for as many student-athletes as possible to participate in Junior Spartans basketball. We recognize there are differences in ability levels, and past playing experiences, but we are trying to get as many players as we can to the next level. The number of participants is a difficult situation for any high school program, and we want the high school coaches to have a large number to pick from; not pick and choose who we think might be a benefit to the high school in the future, while they are still a youth player. Every youth player has the potential to be a benefit to a high school program.
OPERATIONAL STATEMENTCalendar: The Brookfield East Jr. Spartans conduct tryouts in the fall, usually September. Players are selected and placed onto teams at that time. Practice is usually scheduled twice during the week. Tournaments and league games are generally played on the weekends. The season runs from fall tryouts to generally around mid-March. Registration/Fees: A parent/guardian must complete the registration, the concussion forms, Codes of Conduct, and pay fees before a player is allowed to practice. Included on the registration is a request for information about the player's health insurance. The concussion forms need to be signed by parents and players, as this is mandatory through the state. Players and parents must agree and sign the Codes of Conduct prior to practicing with their team. The fee to participate in Jr. Spartans is $320. This fee covers: gym rentals, league fee, tournament fees, equipment purchases, coaching pay, and club administration costs. Practice: Practices should be determined by late September. Usually, a team will practice twice per week, approximately 90 minutes each practice. The coach may schedule voluntary, "extra" practices. Although every attempt is made to schedule two practices each week, due to gym availability, this may not occur. If a player cannot attend practice for any reason, she must contact one of the coaches BEFORE the practice. Playing time will be effected if practices are missed. Communication: The club operates mainly on this website, where important information about the club is posted including practice schedules, tournament promotions, and special announcements. The coaches and board members can also be contacted via email. Games and Tournaments: Coaches are provided league schedules as soon as they become available. Coaches will also select tournaments to participate in. The coach will communicate this schedule to their team. The teams play in league games during the months of November to January, usually 2 games at a time. A team may play up to three or four games in a weekend tournament. The club works to reduce league game conflicts with tournaments when preparing the year's schedule. If a conflict occurs during the season, the coach has the authority and responsibility to make necessary arrangements to eliminate the conflict. Most tournaments we participate in are conducted in many areas of southeastern and central Wisconsin. Uniforms: In addition to the player's registration fee, the player needs to purchase a uniform (reversible and shorts). Uniform sizes are available at team registration. A uniform should last about two seasons. Playing Time: The Jr. Spartans has established playing time guidelines. The coach has the discretion to adjust this for circumstances such as practice attendance, attitude, disciplinary, etc. ORGANIZATIONAL STATEMENT2018-2019 Leadership Team President: Bob Reddin Vice President: Anne Grintjes Treasurer: Katie Doyle Secretary: Cheryl Johnston Basketball Director: Tyler Saxton Additional Officers: Matt Schroeder, Todd Clegg, Heidi Kohler, Tanya Fox, Geoffrey Wilber STATE TOURNAMENT HISTORY2011: Jr. Spartans 5th Grade= 21st place out of 22 2013: Jr. Spartans 7th Grade= 11th place out of 26 2014: Jr. Spartans 5th Grade= 4th place out of 22 2014: Jr. Spartans 8th Grade= 18th place out of 24 2015: Jr. Spartans 6th Grade= 15th place out of 26 2016: Jr. Spartans 5th Grade= 5th place out of 22 2016: Jr. Spartans 7th Grade= 11th place out of 18 2016: Jr. Spartans 8th Grade= 16th place out of 22 2017: Jr. Spartans 6th Grade= 10th place out of 24
